From Lizzy to Liz

Hi! Just a quick show and tell for Lori's Linky party page. This is [again], the little quilt I made for Liz in Oregon [not Ohio, sorry!].

I based my little quilt on a doll quilt in my Pinterest files. I used Lori's Country Roads block from last year's quiltalong.  This is one of the smallest doll quilts I've made. I love tiny quilts.

I often use antique or vintage orphan quilt blocks as backings for my doll quilts. I try to choose a block that is the style, age , and colors of my little top.

And any leftover tidbits get turned into sewing emeries/ strawberries or pin keeps.

Thank you for such a fun swap , Lori!  http://humblequilts.blogspot.com/2016/05/celebrate-little-quilt-swap-linky-party.html

From Valerie to Lizzy

Hi! Time for little quilt show and tell!
This past month Lori at Humble Quilts organized our third annual doll quilt swap. Every year more and more quilters join in, I think more than 80 this year. HERE
So fun and it is so generous of Lori to take the time to do this for all of us. [Thank you, Lori!]
I sent my little quilt off, fingers crossed, and eagerly awaited the arrival of my quilt.
My quilt was made by Val [Valerie Langue] and it comes from my home state and even my home neighborhood of northern Illinois. It seems Val is the proprietor of a lovely quilt shop! The Quilt Merchant How I wish I could visit such a great shop [no quilt shops here at the beach] and meet Val in person.

I LOVE my little quilt from Val.

Look at these fabrics.

I believe it is a charm quilt, having studied it carefully and finding no repeats, except the cornerstones. All those pinks!

Val also put in some special treasures--- very useful and pretty fabrics in reds and blacks, teeny tiny hexie papers [paper hexagons to form hand pieced hexagon quilts for non-quilter friends, link at end of this post].

And these dear little  again teeny tiny Eiffel Tower scissors, perfect for my little beach bag sewing kit.

I'll treasure this quilt always--for its wonderful colors and fabrics, for the beauty of its construction, for Val's kindness in making it for me, and for its memories of a place I once called home and dearly loved.

.......................................                     .................................                   ......................

Here is my little quilt, the one I sent to Liz in Oregon.

I based it on a doll quilt from my collection of doll quilt pins on my Pinterest page. The center is a Country Roads block [Crossroads] from one of Lori's doll quiltalongs. I loved the little block so I used it here.

I often put an antique quilt block on the backs of my doll quilts, I think it adds to the charm and interest. And it's a way of preserving interesting orphan blocks.

Thanks again to Val, and to Lori, for a fun swap! Be sure to go to Lori's blog to see the link-up of everyone's little quilts, leave a comment if possible too. HERE

Healing

Hello everyone! Mo and I are still mostly having to stay in and rest and heal. No wonderful beach walks to share with you! [wait! maybe...] And I always worry my non-quilting friends will tire of seeing my busy-work projects.
Remember that old Seinfeld episode where the boys plan a show ''about nothing''?--- LOL. This is similar---a post about nothing! My hip pain is responding to lots of rest and heating pad, although the pain tends to travel [joint inflammation] and now my left hand is also very painful. The good new is the shoulder pain has subsided.
Mo still is for some reason refusing to walk.

I am limiting him to one long walk per day. Usually if he got tired I'd carry him, but with the severe sob-inducing hip pain, I find it hard to heft his chubby self under my arm and walk with him. He tends to do his sit-downs as far from home as he can manage, too.

Mother's Day was sweet. Quiet, but nice. Lovely flowers from my kids..

And a bottle of this fun and soooo pretty rose' from a friend. Oh we need to stock up on this.

Problem is, it's hard to remain indoors once my hip is not so painful. Despite grey and very windy day, my beach is calling to me. Is there treasure after the storm flood tides? Did my birds make their nests in safe places. Let's go look!? Yes? no?
View from the bench at the top of the dune boardwalk.

It's almost low tide, and because it is almost the new moon, it is a very low tide.

Let's go investigate!

Only one piper nest so far, see the cage to the left? Looks like the high water just missed her.

The dunes are getting greener.

See how far out the tide has gone!

Lots of seaweed, like straw, from last week's storm/ flood tides. It looks ugly but is great for finding treasure. It will be raked up at sunset/ sunrise, by the sand-rake truck.

And here are exposed deposits of shells. Good for seaglass though I doubt I could bend over to pick anything up, isn't that awful...

You can see it's cold and grey. 53*, 18 mph wind blowing in off 40* ocean. bbbbrrrr.

Plovers and sanderlings.

I think they like it cold...
And sweet Gully? with two piping plovers. Piping plovers are endangered but the birds themselves are very unafraid, almost tame.

PS I think these shots would make really intersting paitings. Big canvases, gloppy acrylic or oil paints....Next trip t the thrift shop I'll look for XXL frames to use.
