Changes. Again.

Hi! Hope everyone had a great weekend and your football teams all won! Today I have to show you, yet again, my home decor...

Yes I admit it, I couldn't live with the brilliant coral orange throw pillows and cheddar quilts for more than two Halloween weeks. here I was cringing every time I walked into the very sunny space. It seems that just like I cannot put on a  bright red or pink or orange tee shirt first thing in the morning, I can't look at bright pillows for long either.

The coral-orange seashell toile pillows are nice---(I made them out of a small quilted throw)---but maybe they'd look better on my deck chairs in the summer? But oh man they made me tense, lol. I found these wonderful beachy grey and cream heavy cotton pillows at Marshall's.

I love how calm and serene they make my main room. And how they reflect the colors of the sand dunes' shadows.

They are large, and feather filled and were 16.oo each! I couldn't buy pillow inserts for that price.

I kept the black and white toile accent pillows and the largest khaki and brown quilted pillows, the soft teddy bear brown cozy throw...

A few soft cheddar accents remain....

A big basket of my sewing, for Mel who always wants to see signs of life in my pictures, lol.

A favorite very worn but beautiful silk, wool, and velvet Log Cabin crazy quilt, in soft autumn shades, folded over the chair arm...

This was a rescue quilt, so neglected! But I carefully washed it. I have never had the heart to cut it up for Christmas etsy hearts...or even to offer it for sale as a whole piece. I fell in love with it once I saw what was under 100 years of grime.

Kept out all my mercury glass pumpkins, and added a few early purchase mercury glass ornaments, for subtle glow....

Even a different candle mat, a tan and sage 19th century quilt square.

Oh and the best thing! Look at these creamy white fall roses in the japonnaise pitcher!

These roses were 1.99 a bunch! This is two bunches. The label says five stems but there are 6-10 roses on each stem.

Trader Joe's. Cannot go wrong with 1.99 roses...

And in this currently empty spot [more on what I thought was gonna go there in another post]...I put this great weathered driftwood star!

I love the rustic accent for fall..and it can go outside next summer if I get tired of it indoors or find another piece for this spot...

The photo below is a very dark outtake but I liked how it shows my ocean view through the big windows. The ocean looks far but there's no one and nothing between me and my beach.

All this took me about 30 minutes to rearrange, and cost under 100.oo. I admit I had to hit two Marshalls and Home Goods to accumulate the set of four matching pillows. My fave is the solo ''suzani''or ikat print pillow, but I never found another like it.

Now we're planning Thanksgiving dinner. Everyone has a special dish they cherish, don't they? What about you and your family/ guests---any must-haves or wish lists for  Turkey Day?

Flea Market Treasures...November

Hi everyone! Before I show you this past Sunday's flea finds, I must show you:

Yes, tonight! A rainbow! In November, isn't that wonderful....it made me so happy.
Sunday's fun flea market made me happy too.
Perfect day, nice and cool. Good ''stuff'', not Granny's garage sale leftovers.

I felt energetic enough to actually buy something this week. Which has not been the case recently, I just wander in a daze then go home.
I've been watching this adorable white ironstone milk jug for awhile.

I love the crazed crackle and discoloration, had even seen almost the exact one on Pinterest. [below, Pinterest version]

Like I need another pitcher, right? But...but! Wait.
C'mon! The dealer looked grumpy but when he said 3 bucks, oh how can I go wrong!

Yep I got it. (And the man was nice, he just looked snarky, poor guy. lol.)

At the booth of a favorite seller, the man who usually sells the very old English transferware, I was disappointed to find no china, but I said Hi, and rummaged through messy bins and found great old buttons and a brass needle case. Carved, studded 19th century mother of pearl, plus some fancy glass.

When I was paying for the buttons, I mentioned that I am searching for old junky [not gold or silver/ not plastic] thimbles, and he came up with two! Including a very tiny one, size six. Which he kindly tossed in the bag with buttons. Now my prim thimble collection is begun.
Will I someday regret saying No to the very ugly pink plastic thimble?  I hope not.

Someday I want to have a bowl like This! via Pinterest, below.

Then from another dealer I often buy from [the ''Moss Rose" pitcher, the glass heart dishes]...I got this wonderful primitive Bennington-style big spatterware bowl.

I love the brown colors and drips!

And I have nothing like it in my admittedly too huge yelloware (yellow ware?) collection.
They also had the teeny tiniest little blue striped bowl, so cute!

It's the size of a small cereal bowl---maybe 1 1/2 Cups? and like the white jug it is nicely crackled and aged but perfect.

Then the linen dresser scarf...cut-work and embroidery.

Not washed yet. It will be used for lavender hearts or doll/ angel dresses. Except maybe it's too nice to cut up?

A weird thing happened at this dealer's booth. Since the bowls were heavy and it was just about the first booth I'd stopped by, I asked the guy if he'd hang onto my stuff while I shopped. He said Sure...but when I returned an hour later, someone had unpacked all my purchases and strewn them back around the booth. Only the big bowl was still in the bag! Someone had 'shopped' my treasures and luckily found them wanting. I was upset that the dealers had allowed this...learned my lesson: take 5 minutes to bring heavy things to the car where they'll be safe! Unless one's car is towed, ya never know at this market. Oh nevermind...

Tonight I made chocolate chip-orange pound cake with Trader Joe's bittersweet chocolate chunks. My friend B is coming to visit, for tea and a thrifting day. And maybe a yarn shop!?
Wish us luck! And sunny weather!

Sunshine and Shadows: November

I love November, always have. It's such an exciting month...the countdown to the festive season begins, the weather changes, the leaves begin to turn.

I love November's weather. The days can be balmy, a final day or two for shorts, a t-shirt, and a beach chair. Or it can be sharp and crisp and cool. The wind almost always blows hard, sending clouds scudding across the sky...light, then dark. Grey, yet golden...

Join me for a beachwalk on this lovely early November day?

Below, my inspiration for today's post: traditional Amish Sunshine and Shadow quilts. The juxtaposition of the light and dark fabrics is intended to create the illusion of sunlight falling across a dark surface. Wonderful autumn colors too.
This is a classic example:

But this is my favorite! Wonderful colors, the khaki and violet, the turquoise center. It is going on my ''someday'' list!
