One [Wo] Man's Junk

Ever look at a blog about flea marketing
and wonder what the heck "they" are gonna do with that junk? Two of my fav blogs often are all about junking. Laura at 52 Flea does the wonderful photos and the BEST displays and vignettes. And Anything Goes Here has all the cool stuff you missed by sleeping in last Sunday!

Here are some repurposed treasures in my etsy shop:

Vintage rhinestone and sepia photo frame ornaments...

Christmas Tree  Icicles...

made from old chandelier drops...

A charm bracelet with old rosary beads and a vintage-y heart locket...

Glittered wooden seashells...

a tiny glittery songbird

And the small turquoise heart bracelet, in case someone wants one too!

Antique seaglass bottles with specimen seashell stoppers...

And always...old linens and quilt scraps made into hearts galore!
These makes wonderful stocking stuffers, teachers' gifts, hostess presents. Something special, different...and not too expensive. Stock up? Cute on the tree or tied to gift bows too, of course.

I'd love to have you come visit my etsy shop!

December Roars in....

December has arrived, roaring in like the proverbial March lion. And took my white canvas windscreens and deck rail with it! The wooden deck was demolished just a week ago, maybe  a contributing factor along with the 50+mph gusts?

A day to stay inside and enjoy my latest flea market treasures...

I love these old dusty Christmas ornaments!
They were just what I was hoping to find on Sunday...and there they were...

The guy selling them was so happy someone loved them. And he let me sort through and toss out the c.1990 plastic ones (oooh, sorry, babies! someday you'll be treasures too.).

These probably date from the 1940s to 50s--- Either  German or Made in Japan, I forgot to look at the tops to see. The boxes of 12 were 10 cents a dozen when they were new, price tag still there: Woolworth's.

I love the faded colors....

Here's my turquoise and blues...

And pinks...

And the hand-painting....

Look---a butterfly!

A skier...

Snowmen...

Another snowman, faded but still charming!

All rendered with just a few flicks of a practiced paintbrush and some glitter, now tarnished by age...

The storm passed by sunset, leaving us with a promise of fair days ahead. Doesn't it look like June?

I Love November

The weather has been wonderful! Bluest skies and briskly blowing autumn leaves.

I love November....
It's been great to get out on the beach after a week or more of cooking and cleaning! The shoreline is very empty though...no birds, no seashells, a few dog walkers...and me. Only a few interesting textures to tuck in my pockets..

What sort of seed is this???

...before heading for the dunes where a tiny surprise grows each autumn. Dune mushrooms!

Apparently indigenous, these little mushrooms crop up,

---usually solo in the sandy areas of the dunes!

I've even found morels!

You'd expect mushrooms in an autumn woods...

...but on the beach? Wherever did they come from? When?

I loved mushroom hunting in my family's Cape Cod woodlot.

 so many kinds...

such fascinating colors:

My dad loved the fairy circle of Indian Pipes (not strictly a mushroom, but a fungus that grows on dead wood....His magical circle grew under big old oaks, among the brown oak leaves and acorns...

And he always scolded, "Don't touch!" as if I was six still...and yes, some varieties are poisonous.

It's always fun to find the Autumn sand mushrooms...signalling the final days of summer. Fall has come at last, winter soon to follow.

What about you guys? Have you ever mushroom hunted? Did you dare to eat them?
