Bits and Pieces~ June Projects

Hi! June has been a spectacular month, weatherwise, here at the beach. Cool and breezy with bright sunshine.

I am sad I can't enjoy it in my usual ways but on good days Mo and I can sit out on the deck each afternoon while I do some hand sewing.

I cannot do any machine sewing, or large scale marking and cutting; instead I have been trying to keep focused on small increments of handwork. Sometimes the pain is so bad I cannot carry in my sewing box!

Pain and illness is a strange thing. I so have taken my body for granted, sure, no marathons for me, unlike admirable Lori at Humble Quilts, but I had my daily beach hikes and miles of walks with Mo, I could drive and shop and cook and sew. I was functioning. Being so incapacitated is awful, besides the intense pain, it is frightening. I got new meds today plus many appointments next week. I refuse to give up!
So anyway, here is what I have been doing. I made the Turkey block on When the Wild Geese Fly.

Isn't he so funny! I don't think his feet are quite right, but that's how they are in the pattern.
I decided his velvet wing and tail feathers will do better if machine appliqued so he is ''done'' for now.

I think this quilt is going to be a huge success, and fit in well with my yelloware and other collections for Fall of Someday.

I ended up hand piecing the next batch of WTWGF stars. And below are the Flags' fields/ stars for the June P2 sewalong. Stripes will be done ''someday''.

The next block of P2 is the wonderful basket block, due mid-July. This is a BIG basket! Huge!
22" block.

I know the sewing isn't quite up to standard but best I can manage at present.

I treated myself to a small group of fat quarters for this quilt.

I ordered these Saturday night and they already arrived today, Monday! From Washington state. I was so thrilled and cheered up.

I do  love this fabric group, called I think Backyard Roses. I want this to be a very bright and happy quilt.

gone to the beach....

Sunday's breeze brought out many sailboats. [I know! The view never changes---but at least I have a view?]

  2. Goodness I hope you improve soon too. I am thankful you are able to do some handwork. It was here on your blog that I spotted the 365 Dots in May. I am on my second month. Loving putting my fabrics into dots. God Bless You.

  3. I'm glad you can sit out a bit but don't overdo! The turkey block is cute in a funky way, lol, never thought I'd say a turkey was cute. Love the bright fabric quarters - although I LOVE the scrap with the ladybugs on it!

Although we all love to see your handiwork, we know you need to take it easy. We wouldn't mind hearing what you're reading and what Mo's been doing to entertain you, too. Take care of yourself! Sending good wishes your way.

    1. Hi Mel. The ladybug fabric is a scrap from one of the cotton bandannas that the groomer puts around the doggy's neck after his bath. Saved it for years, from previous pug, for the great ladybugs. [current groomer gives bows instead :-(] I thought it d make a cute Dotty, too.

Good post suggestion! Maybe next we ll talk aout books, tho the photos won t be fun.

  4. Hi, love that first photo. I like the contrast in colors. I also think the turkey is pretty cute. Glad you've had good weather, at least that's a bright spot :)

It makes me sad that you're still not feeling well. I also wanted to say that I'm glad you feel comfortable starring with us. There's strength in numbers and we are all pulling for you. Hope the new media make a difference, and good luck with the appointments next week.

    Hugs,

    Kel

  6. Love your turkey. You are further along with the basket block than I am. My mom is very sick and last night seemingly in minutes I got a really bad cold. Am miserable but trying to be with my mom as much as I can.

  8. I'm so sorry about the continued pain and illness. Even the idea of one day free is a paradise on its own. Fingers crossed the new meds are/will be an improvement.

    I love the turkey quilt.

When I think of fabric, I think in yards. I should probably think in the smaller amounts sold at the quilting stores.

Mindset. Yep. Makes a huge difference.
