Doesn't Get Much Better Than This

 Summer is here!

This weekend the fog blew out to sea and glorious summer prevailed.

There's an east coast saying about The Ten Best Days (I never heard of it back in the midwest, maybe we didn't have ten big ones?)....

These days of mid-May are surely contenders, 60*, dry!!! air, nicely breezey, and sun sun sun!

The dunes smell like sunshine and roses....

Shorebirds are often my only companions here....
Arctic terns...I was afraid to go closer!

The little lady of the dunes, the oystercatcher...she was off having a bite to eat, her mate watched me so carefuly...but allowed me to take photos!

Isn't the one big aqua egg strange!?

The eggs are the size of hens' eggs but elongated..and usually tan with splotches of brown....

Canada geese at the golf course...

Baby in the middle, huddled against the  adult in the back.

I notice this year most pairs of geese have one chick. The conservation people must be leaving one baby to hatch, so the parents are not so stricken and distressed when none of their babies survive. Geese mate for life and are very proud and caring parents.

The relocated plover nest that was swept away a few weeks weeks ago. The pair re-nested closer to the water but on slightly higher ground. So far, so good....

Black skimmers (looking white from below, their camouflage, against the white surf)...

Of course it now is Monday, the fog has returned....but oh what a lovely weekend! Margaritas, anyone? C'mon!
