Noah's Ark

Does Noah "do" blizzards?

I have to ask, because, Oh my! we still have a LOT of snow.

Glaciers and mountains instead of streets and parking spots.
I can't even get to the beach! This is the closest entrance, in front of my house....That ramp angles down, the drift is maybe five feet high!

And here is my treasured hand-carved Ark, made for my by my dad....

I love the line-up of all the animals!

A few were old German toys that my dad saved since he was a little boy...then he made the Ark and carved all the classic animal pairs and people. My mom helped paint the tiny wooden carvings. A couple new pairs would arrive each year from Cape Cod, along with a handblown glass "witchball" for my windows...

Friends add new pairs every year! (See the tall, striped glass penguins and fancy frogs? new creatures...) Some are beautiful, some are funky, some are flea market treasures, a few are beachcombed finds. All are welcomed to the parade at Christmas....

The angels and Santa were my grandma's. They too join the Ark each year.....

Safe travels, good journeys to us all, dear friends!

love,

             lizzy

gone to the beach.....

  1. That ark is a true treasure. What a wonderful gift from your dad and mom. Evidence that creativity runs in the family. We are having high winds, clouds and a bit of rain today. Our first in forever. Hope your temps warm a bit and the snow starts to melt away. Wishing you a healthy, happy new year. Tammy

  2. I wondered how you were faring with the snow storm. It looks like it will be a while until you can get to the beach?

Your Noah's Ark is fabulous! What a wonderful family treasure. It's fun that the collection of animals continues to grow.

  3. Love the Ark and critters! You have an amazing variety of things!

So sorry for the snow - at least it was a white New Year!

Crossing fingers you can get to the beach again soon.
